Finding Inner peace when those around us struggle

My husband frequently says, “We are only as happy as our unhappiest child.” In so many ways, if we allow it to be, that can be true. I have found this to be an important part of my journey to wholeness. How do we enjoy our moments, our days, and our lives during those times when those we love are struggling? I have three grown children and they are going to have times when life is hard. I have to reframe my thoughts regarding what will really help my love ones. If I sink to the bottom with them, I have only weighted them down more. I don’t want to add to the heaviness they carry. However, if I go about my day and work on enjoying my moments, seeing the blessings in the small things, and keeping myself light then I have, indeed, gifted myself and also gifted those around me. The message then becomes I am strong, I can handle their difficulties, and I can be there to support them. They don’t have to feel they have burdened me. And in my ability to see the sunlight, they may also get a glimpse of it in their day too. Then we have both been gifted.
